This collection of photographs has been passed down from my Great Grandfather to my late Grandmother. I felt it was time to digitise them and ensure they lasted longer than their material state might allow.

Captain Charles Johnson was born in 1880 in Altrincham, Cheshire. He was orphaned by the age of 7 and lived in the boys home, Kingsley Hall, in Frodsham, Cheshire. Charles enlisted in the Cheshire Regiment in August 1894 at the young age of 14. By 16 he was in India.
